Khan Academy and Schoolhouse

Through the STARS Community on Schoolhouse, rural and small-town students can participate in a comprehensive math preparation curriculum starting as early as 8th grade. Students will have access to guided resources in Khan Academy and certified college tutors in Schoolhouse to help them build math skills and obtain certifications that will enhance their preparation for and success at their future college home.

rootEd Alliance

The rootEd Alliance partners with local and national organizations working to meaningfully improve postsecondary and career outcomes with advice, exposure, and access to financial resources, so that all students in rural areas and towns can pursue their dreams.

The Rural Debate Initiative

The Rural Debate Initiative is a nationally focused non-profit that provides free debate education to students in grades 7-12 in rural areas. We champion and leverage the assets unique to rural communities and rural individuals through our supplemental and debate programs. We aim to provide rural students with a comprehensive enrichment experience, equipping them with a variety of skills such as communication, critical thinking, leadership, and teamwork that prepares them for any educational or career path of their choosing.


An initiative of Schmidt Futures and the Rhodes Trust, Rise is the anchor program of a $1 billion commitment from Eric and Wendy Schmidt to find and support global talent. The program starts at ages 15-17 and encourages a lifetime of service and learning by providing support that includes need-based scholarships, mentorship, networking, access to career development opportunities, and the potential for additional funding as Rise Global Winners work toward solving humanity’s most pressing problems.
